ARTIST STATEMENT
My goal as an artist is to explore raw personal reflection in combination with the public psyche. The use of recontextualized images infuses the work with a sense of immediacy and intimacy. I like the highly public and accessible nature of my materials--the images that have been used, touched and seen by others. The form is often alien, absurd and science fictionesque in nature.

I usually begin without a preconceived image. If I do decide to work with a preconceived image, I let that image evolve as any form evolves in nature. I blot out forms that look contrived in my art, so as to create a natural form as possible. I am inspired by Max Ernst for his collages and frottages and by Dubuffet for his playfulness and use of texture.

My approach to the process in creating this work is phenomenologically oriented. I work with images as they exist in the moment without any hidden meaning. I decide on the images based on their humor, color, aesthetic appeal and how they interact with each other.
